By Edward Albee

1. Isolation of human existence in a world without God.
2.Life without purpose or examination.
3.Loneliness.

Characters:

1.Peter: A plain-looking man in his early 40s who smokes a pipe and carries horn-rimmed glasses. His dress and manner are that of a younger man.
2. Jerry: A man in his late 30s, carelessly dressed, once muscular and handsome. He is weary.

Setting:
A park bench in Central Park, New York City, in the present time on a sunny day.

Synopsis:
Peter, a middle-class publishing executive who lives in ignorance of the world outside his married life, sits on a park bench, reading. Along comes Jerry, an isolated, disheartened man who is very troubled and probably mentally ill.
Jerry is desperate to have a meaningful conversation with another human being. He instrudes on Peter’s peaceful state by interrogating him and forcing him to listen to his life story and the reason behind his visit to the New York Zoo.
The action is linear, unfolding in front of the audience in “real time”. The elements of ironic humour and unrelenting dramatic suspense are brought to a climax when Jerry brings his victim down to his own savage level and initiates a shocking ending.

The Proposal by Anton Chekov

The Proposal by Anton Chekov

1. Characters :
a. Stepan Stepanovich Chubukov
b. Natalya Stepanovna
c. Ivan Vassilevitch Lomov
2. Characterization :
a. Stepan Stepanovich Chubukov: 70 years old, a landowner.
b. Natalya Stepanovna: Chubukov’s daughter, 25 years old.
c. Ivan Vassilevitch Lomov: 35 years old, a neighbour of T Tschubukov , a large and hearty, but very suspicious landowner.
3. Plot :
Ivan Vassiliyitch Lomov, a long-time neighbor of Stepan Stepanovitch Chubukov, has come to propose marriage to Chubukov's 25-year-old daughter, Natalia. After he has asked and received joyful permission to marry Natalia, she is invited into the room, and he tries to convey to her the proposal. Lomov is a hypochondriac, and, while trying to make clear his reasons for being there, he gets into an argument with Natalia about The Oxen Meadows, a disputed piece of land between their respective properties, which results in him having "palpitations" and numbness in his leg. After her father notices they are arguing, he joins in, and then sends Ivan out of the house. While Stepan rants about Lomov, he expresses his shock that "this fool dares to make you (Natalia) a proposal of marriage!" This news she immediately starts into hysterics, begging for her father to bring him back. He does, and Natalia and Ivan get into a second big argument, this time about the superiority of their respective hunting dogs, Otkatai and Ugadi. Ivan collapses from his exhaustion over arguing, and father and daughter fear he's died. However, after a few minutes he regains consciousness, and Tschubukov all but forces him and his daughter to accept the proposal with a kiss. Immediately following the kiss, the couple gets into another argument.

4. Setting :
a. Setting of place : In a country house of Chubukov
b. Setting of time : In the past time

5. Theme :
The farce explores the process of getting married and could be read as a satire on the upper middle class and courtship.
The play points out the struggle to balance the economic necessities of marriage and what the characters themselves actually want. It shows the characters' desperation for marriage as comical.
In Chekhov's Russia, marriage was a mean of economic stability for most people. They married to gain wealth and possessions or to satisfy social pressure. The satire is conveyed successfully by emphasizing the couple's foolish arguments over small things. The main arguments in the play revolve around The Oxen Meadows and two dogs called Ugadi and Otkatai.

6. Conclusion :
In Chekhov's Russia, marriage was a means of economic stability for most people. They married to gain wealth and possessions. In this play, the concept of marriage is being satirized to show the real purpose of marriage - materialistic gain rather than true love.
Thus, first, it assumes that there is such a thing as true love and that it is a conception based on the idea that two people are literally meant for each other. Second, it states that these two people, though meant for each other, may have to endure a good deal before they can actually achieve the love they feel.

7. Man vs. Society :
It is a man vs. society drama because in the proposal drama there are some conflicts among its characters. Moreover in this drama there is no natural event.

  3.    The hotel - The hotel where Willy stays while in New England for his business trips.  This is where Biff catches his father in the affair.
Time
Date premiered     : 10 February 1949

C.    Language style

The style and devices Miller uses enhances Willy’s mental state.  By using flashback and reveries, he allows the audience to get into the mind of Willy Loman and brings us into a sense of pity for him.  Miller also uses a lot of motifs and repeated ideas through the play to give the viewers an idea of what Willy and his situation is all about.  Personal attractiveness is an oft repeated motif.  It shows that Willy believes that personal attractiveness makes one successful, but his belief is shot down by the success of Charley and Bernard who, in his mind, are not personally attractive.  Other motifs are debt which sadly the Lomans escape after Willy dies, stealing which Willy condones, even encourages, the boxed-in feeling of Willy, the idea that Willy’s life is passing him by, expressed in the quote, “The woods are burning,” and Ben’s success and the qualities that brought about his success.

D.    Plot the story

Biff returns from the west to visit his family although he doesn’t know how long he’s going to stay.  Happy is glad to see him, but Willy seems strangely irritated.  He talks to old friends he imagines to the chagrin of his family, but no one has the heart to confront him about it.  Willy has a flashback of a time when Biff and Happy were promising high school students.  In the flashback, Willy gives his sons a punching bag.  He also condones Biff’s stealing of a football and doesn’t encourage them to study as much as they should.  He emphasizes being well liked.  After the flashback, Happy talks with Willy and asks him why he didn’t go to New England for his business trip.  Willy explains that he almost hit a kid in Yonkers.  He also tells his sons of his brother Ben who made a fortune on a trip to Africa.
Charley comes to Willy’s house at night complaining of not being able to sleep.  Charley and Willy play cards, but at the same time, Willy hold a conversation with his imaginary brother.  Charley has no idea what’s going on and leaves.  Willy continues the conversation regretting that he stayed in American while he could have gone to Alaska or Africa with his brother and made a fortune.  While Willy is having this imaginary conversation, Biff talks with Linda and asks her about Willy’s condition.  Linda explains that she can’t bring herself to confront Willy about it.  She also tells Biff that Willy has attempted suicide by crashing the car several times.  Willy comes out of his reverie and speaks with his family about their jobs.  Happy has an idea of starting a line of sporting goods so Biff decides to go to Bill Oliver to ask to borrow money.  Willy decides to go to Howard the next day to ask if he can work in New York so that he wouldn’t have to drive 700 miles to work..  The next day Willy goes to Howard and Biff goes to see Oliver.  They decide to celebrate their success by going out for dinner at night.  When Willy talks with Howard, he loses his temper and begins yelling at Howard who in turn fires him.  After Biff goes to see Bill, Bill doesn’t remember him and doesn’t lend him money.  At night, Biff and Happy arrive at the restaurant before their father.  Biff explains to happy that he didn’t get the money, and happy encourages his brother to lie.  Willy arrives.  Biff tries to tell Willy that he didn’t get the money and that he stole a fountain pen from Bill.  However, Happy is at the same time lying to Willy that Bill warmly welcomed Biff.  Willy apparently accepts Happy’s version.  Willy tells his sons that he was fired and falls into his reverie having a flashback of the time Biff caught him in his affair.  He remembers that it was that moment that Biff’s life ended.  Happy does not want to put up with his father and leaves with Biff and two girls they met earlier at the restaurant.  The two of them arrive home late and the coldly receives by Linda.  Biff confronts Willy about his suicide attempts and Willy denies everything.  He tells Biff that he did not get any money from Oliver and has no hope go get any money.  He accuses Willy of not know who he really is.  However, after this, Biff cries and leaves.  Willy realizes that Biff loves him and decides to celebrate by killing himself by crashing the car which would give his family 20 thousand dollar in life insurance.  No one but his family and Charley goes to his funeral.

E.     Conclusion
The moral value of the story
If we want to get what we want and being needed by others we should hard work to get and to be that. If we just imagine and imagine or day dreaming, that won’t be come true.
   Kind of The Story
This story is classified as “man vs. society”, because the conflict arises because of Willy cannot be proper father for his family and as a man in his society he is failed.

H

A. The Character and Characterization

There are 3 characters in this comic drama:

1.  The Professor aged 50 to 60
The professor, between fifty and sixty years old, who tutors individual pupils for their “total doctorate” examinations.

2.  The young pupil, aged 18
The Pupil (Amy Loughton) was taking over-acting to new heights and was duly concerned.

3.  The Maid, aged 45 to 50
The Maid (Julia Munrow) is very faithful alright to accompany the professor, hyperbolic character, and psychopath.

B. Theme
This story have many aspect that builder the main idea of the story. There are comedy, horror, education, and psychological. This drama tells about the professor that maniacs to always teach pupils and don’t let them go.

C. Setting place and time.
·      Setting: in the professor’s house (in dining room) and inside the house the maids, silhouetted in a green light, deliver the lesson in an endless stream of words, rendered at speed above the sound of tearing paper.
·      Time: morning.

D. Plot the story
The play takes place in the office and dining room of a small French flat. The Professor, an elderly man of about 50 to 60, is expecting a new Pupil (aged 18). The third character is the Professor's Maid, a stout, red-faced woman of about 40 to 50, who is always worrying about the Professor's health. As the lesson progresses, the Professor grows more and more angry with (what he perceives as) the Pupil's ignorance and the Pupil becomes more and more quiet and meek. At the climax of the play, the Pupil is murdered by the Professor, after a long bout of non sequiturs (which are frequently used in Ionesco's plays). The play ends as a new Pupil is greeted by the Maid.

E. Summary
The young pupil is eager to learn and she dominates the professor with her confidence and youth, but as the story develops. Even more she is suffering from the professor’s voice and explanation, such as toothache, earache, headache and eyes ache. The maid, Marie, always warns the professor about his “health” and calamity that might happen. Unfortunately the professor, instead of listening to his maid, ignores her every time she warns him. The maid warns him when the professor explains about philology, and again, the professor ignores her. The maid also warns the professor again when he starts asking about ‘knife’ in different languages, but the maid is already tired to warn him. In the end of the play, the professor kills the pupil with an imaginative knife and with the help of his maid he could get rid of her corpse and then the stage is set again with another young pupil who is ready for the lesson. And it is fortieth times his killed.
The moral value of the story
Reminds us to control our emotion when we are in difficult situations and stay calm, not to underestimate to other people, and be open-minded person.

F. Conclusion
The conclusion of comic drama is representing the relationship between man versus society. Because this comic drama tells relationship between people, they are the relation between the professor, the young pupil, and the maid. The professor become irrational, arrogant, and authoritative since his pupil gains nothing from her lesson. Finally, the professor murdered his pupil which helped by his maid.

Injak Al-Qur'an dan Berubah Jadi Binatang

Mengetahui sikap anaknya kasar, Umi Syahdiyah terperangah. Cerita Umi Syahdiyah sembari menyeka air matanya.

Melihat anaknya makin kesetanan. Jerit Umi Syahdiyah sembari menangis pilu.

Umi Syahdiyah menceritakan, sikap anaknya membanting Al-Qur'an lalu menginjak-injaknya itu diluar kebiasaanya. "Entah, mengapa......... Salwa bisa dirasuki setan hingga tindakannya diluar batas kewajaran", ungkapnya dengan suara lirih.

Percaya atau tidak, seketika itu tubuh Salwa telah berubah menjadi binatang, Wajahnya mirip dengan kanguru atau kambing, sedangkan kaki dan tangannya persis seperti kera atau anjing. Melihat perubahan pada diri Salwa, Umi Syahdiyah langsung berterak-teriak histeris minta tolong. Tak berapa lama kemudian, orang-orang disekitar tempat tinggal Umi Syahdiyah langsung mendatangi rumahnya.

Konsep Futuristik Transportasi Masa Depan

CityMobiL
